Zurich

General

Zurich, Switzerland’s most populous canton, has clear preferences: around 38.3 % of Zurich residents prefer Swisscom, the Swiss market leader, as their cell phone subscription provider. It is followed by Sunrise with 20.9 % and Salt in third place with 17.1 % in the popularity ranking of Zurich residents. Quickline is at the bottom of the list in the canton with just 0.8%. The providers M-Budget and init7 appear to be similarly unpopular – both are at 1%.

The small suppliers

It is clear that small providers of cell phone subscriptions are not particularly popular in Zurich. yallo and Wingo are only high on the preference list with 5.1% and 6.3% respectively.

Bern

General

The market leaders are also at the top of the provider popularity list in the canton of Berne: Swisscom is the clear favorite of the Bernese at around 46.3%, Salt and Sunrise at 13.9% each. At the very bottom of the list for the Bernese is init7 with 0.4 % and then M-Budget with 1.5 %.

The small suppliers

The cheaper price category is less popular among Bernese, but still represented. At 6.2%, Quickline is the most popular cell phone subscription provider, while 7.6% prefer Wingo and 4.1% yallo.

Lucerne

General

The market leaders throughout Switzerland also occupied the top 3 in the canton of Lucerne: Swisscom is most popular with around 45.7 % of Lucerne residents, Sunrise with 16.7 % and Salt with 11.1 %. Too low on the popularity list are again init7, which could only convince 0.4 % of Lucerne residents, and M-Budget with 1.4 %.

The small suppliers

However, the market leaders do not have a large lead. Right after Salt comes Swisscom’s subsidiary Wingo, which is the most popular among around 9% of Lucerne residents. UPC is the most popular with around 7.4%, followed by yallo with 4.9% and Quickline with 3.3%.

Uri

General

Swiss market leader Swisscom is at the top of the popularity list with 45.6% in the canton of Uri. It is followed by Sunrise with 13.7 % and UPC with 13.7 %. UPC thus knocks the larger provider Salt out of the top 3. The least popular providers in this canton are init7 with 0.4 % and Quickline with 0.7 %.

The small suppliers

Salt only makes it to fourth place in the popularity list in the canton of Uri: The provider is preferred by 11.2% of residents. It is closely followed by Wingo with 9.1%. M-Budget, which is preferred by only around 1.8 %, does less well among the smaller providers. A little more popular – at 3.9% – is yallo.

Schwyz

General

In the canton of Schwyz, the Swiss market leaders are the most popular. Swisscom is preferred by 43.1 % of the Schwyz population as a cell phone subscription provider. Sunrise is preferred by 15.7 % and Salt by 12.4 %. Not very popular are init7 with 0.7 % and M-Budget with 1.7 %.

The small suppliers

The nationwide market leaders have only a small lead over the small mobile subscription providers in the canton of Schwyz. UPC is the preferred provider in 10.4% of the canton and Wingo in turn in 8.5%. Further down the list, at 3.1% and 4.7% respectively, are Quickline and yallo.

Obwalden

General

In the canton of Obwalden, the top 3 of the most popular cell phone subscription providers does not consist of the three best-known Swiss market leaders.
