How can I watch TV on my cell phone

watch TV on my cell phone

You want to watch the TV program on your cell phone on the go? You have various options for watching TV on your cell phone. Find out here which offers are available from Swiss providers and how you can mirror the screen of your TV.

TV on mobile

To watch a TV picture on a smartphone, you usually need an app. Swiss mobile providers such as Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt, yallo and Wingo offer TV apps for this purpose. But there are also TV apps from smartphone manufacturers like Samsung or Apple. With the “SmartThings” app from Samsung, for example, you can mirror the TV picture of certain Samsung TVs on your cell phone.

If you’d rather know how to connect your phone to your TV, read on here.

Table of Contents

Swisscom TV on mobile

If you want to watch Swisscom TV on your smartphone, you can download the Swisscom blue TV app. You can find it in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. After installing it, you can immediately enjoy the Swisscom TV offer – i.e. series, feature films and sports programs – on your smartphone.

However, the TV offers that can be seen on the cell phone vary depending on which rate plan you have booked. There is also the option of watching TV on your cell phone for free, provided you go with the “blue TV Air free” plan. With this tariff, you can receive over 250 channels for free; 100 of them in HD quality. With this free tariff, you can also watch sports and movies on demand. However, the replay function, recordings and live pause do not work with the free “blue TV Air free”. However, you can use the blue+ packages Max, Sport and Doku in the free version, as well as the TV guide and the download function, especially to watch programs offline. The range of TV viewing options on the cell phone is therefore extensive, even free of charge.

Swisscom TV subscriptions

With the “blue TV Air” subscription, you get additional services for CHF 10.- per month, which are not included in the free tariff. You get here

You can get Swisscom TV for your TV and other devices with different subscriptions, which you can also find on our Swisscom provider page.

Sunrise TV on mobile

The mobile provider Sunrise also offers a TV app for cell phones: The “Sunrise Smart TV” app. The app is available for Android phones as well as for the iPhone, whereby at least Android 4.4 or iOS 11 is required in each case. Downloading the app from the App Store or Google Play is free. If you have a mobile subscription from Sunrise, you don’t have to pay anything for Sunrise TV streaming, i.e. for pure data consumption.

Sunrise advertises that the “Sunrise Smart TV” app offers the same advantages as Sunrise TV. Sunrise TV can be watched on up to five smartphones in HD quality. The app also works on tablets. Comeback TV and personal program tips can also be used in the app. In addition, users can make unlimited recordings and save them in the cloud.

Combination offers with Sunrise

However, to use the Sunrise Smart TV offer, you need a Sunrise Internet subscription. You can see the different subscriptions here on our Sunrise provider page. To use Sunrise Smart TV, you need a Sunrise combination offer:

Salt TV on mobile

The mobile provider Salt has developed a TV app and a video app for its customers so that they can use the respective apps to watch movies and series on their cell phones, among other things. However, these apps are only available to Salt customers who have taken out Salt’s Fiber tariff. You can find the different subscriptions on our Salt provider page. The “Salt TV” app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The TV offer includes the following services:

Salt Video App

Fiber customers can select from a range of 10,000 films via the “Salt Video” app and rent or buy these films. The “Salt Video” app is also available in both the App Store and the Google Play Store. These are the features you can expect from the app:

Yallo TV on mobile

Yallo offers a yallo TV subscription for CHF 20.- per month, with which you can enjoy the TV program on your smartphone, TV or tablet. With the subscription you get access to 270+ channels in HD, a 7-day replay function and the possibility to watch TV on up to 5 devices simultaneously. You can also purchase MySports Pro access. More information about yallo TV and other yallo subscriptions can be found on the yallo provider page

Samsung TV on cell phone

Previously, you could mirror the content that was on certain Samsung TVs to your phone via the “Samsung Smart View” app. However, as of October 5, 2020, the “Smart View” app has been discontinued in both the Android version and the iOS version. If you still want to mirror your Samsung TV to your phone today, you have to install Samsung’s “SmartThings” app on your smartphone. The “SmartThings” app is available for both Android phones and iPhones.

This is how Samsung TV screen mirroring works

For screen mirroring, i.e. TV-to-mobile phone mirroring, using the “SmartThings” app, proceed as follows:

However, you have to have a Samsung account to use the “SmartThings” app.

Apple TV on iPhone

You can also watch TV on your iPhone by bringing Apple’s TV service to your phone via the Apple TV app. You can download the Apple TV app from the App Store.

You can access the Apple TV+ video-on-demand service via the Apple TV app. With Apple TV+, you can watch originals produced by Apple, including series, movies, and documentaries. You can also use the Apple TV app to buy movies and series, subscribe to TV channels, or get recommendations from other video streaming apps like Prime Video.
