Sunrise Communications AG is the second-largest Swiss telecommunications company and offers subscriptions for TV and Internet as well as mobile subscriptions. As one of the three network operators in Switzerland (Swisscom, Sunrise, Salt), Sunrise has a market share of 25% (as of 2020). 

In Switzerland, Sunrise offers the second-fastest Internet after Swisscom and is also only slightly behind Swisscom in mobile network coverage.

Sunrise Network Coverage

Sunrise is one of the few Swiss providers to operate its own mobile network. In Switzerland, Sunrise has a market share of 25% (as of 2020), making it the second-largest mobile network operator in the country. According to Sunrise, the following networks are operated: 3G (UMTS/HSPA), 4G (LTE), 4G /LTE Advanced, 5G.

The network coverage of a mobile operator shows you the availability of a mobile network at a certain location. If this is good at a location, good reception can be guaranteed.

How good is the Sunrise network?

According to quality tests, Sunrise is one of the best networks in the German-speaking world. For example, Sunrise was the only mobile provider to receive the top rating of "outstanding" four times in a row in connect's internationally recognized quality benchmark test. 

Sunrise 4G and 4G+ network coverage

In 2019, Sunrise had already achieved nationwide 4G coverage of 96% of the Swiss population. For 4G+, the figure is 85%. 

Sunrise 5G network coverage

Sunrise has a 5G network coverage of 80%. As early as 2018, Sunrise began expanding its 5G network and in 2022 already provided 1132 cities and towns with high-speed internet. The network provider is concentrating on first supplying households and companies with 5G that do not yet have a fiber optic connection and thus still have access to super-fast Internet.

If you have any questions, Sunrise customer service is at your disposal. You can reach the service by phone throughout Switzerland on 0800 707 707, which is open from Monday to Friday between 8:00 and 19:00. In addition, Sunrise customer service can be reached via web chat on the website from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 7 pm. According to a survey by the mobile phone trade magazine Connect, Sunrise hotline staff are competent and service-oriented. They also answer any questions reliably and professionally and find solutions.

Cancel Sunrise Subscription

There are many reasons to cancel your Sunrise subscription, and each one has different things to consider. Sunrise handles all cancellations - mobile and home - by phone or via web chat. Customer service will give you any additional information you need. 

At Sunrise, you should pay particular attention to the minimum contract durations. These must be adhered to. If you fail to do so, you may incur high penalties. You can find out how high these are and what else you need to watch out for here.

If the contract is terminated before the end of the minimum contract period, basic charges must be paid for the remaining term. 

 

In case of non-compliance with the cancellation period, you will pay the basic fees for the remaining 2 months plus a fee of CHF 100. 

If you change providers, do not cancel your subscription, but request number transfer. The new provider or alao will cancel for you.

This is what you must bear in mind when cancelling your contract with Sunrise

The cell phone subscriptions with Sunrise can only be cancelled after the minimum contract period has expired. At Sunrise, this is at least 12 months, but often 24 months. The notice period is 60 days. With a notice period of 60 days to the minimum contract period, a cell phone subscription from Sunrise can therefore be terminated at the earliest. As long as the cancellation period and minimum contract duration are adhered to, there are no additional costs for the cancellation. If you want to cancel before the expiration of the minimum contract period, you have to pay a penalty fee for the early cancellation of the contract. This can cost several hundred francs, because the basic fees for the remaining term will still be charged. If you cancel your subscription after the minimum contract period has expired without adhering to the regular cancellation period, you will have to pay the basic fees for the remaining two months plus a fee of CHF 100. For this reason, it is recommended to wait for the minimum contract period. 

This is what you should do when you change your subscription

You want to switch to a new provider and keep your number? Then you should not simply cancel your current subscription. If you do, you may lose your number. In most cases, you can simply give your number to the new provider and request a number transfer. In most cases, the new provider will then also take over the cancellation of your cell phone subscription with Sunrise, but the minimum contract period and notice periods must be observed here as well. Otherwise, you can ask customer service to convert the number to prepaid after the cancellation period.

Sunrise Home subscriptions include fixed network, Internet and TV. For these complex combination deals, there is a bit more to consider when canceling than with the cell phone subscription. Just as with the cell phone subscription, a notice period of 60 days applies and the cancellation is carried out by phone with Sunrise customer service 0800 100 600 or via web chat. 

Fees for Sunrise Home cancellation

No termination fees are incurred until the minimum contract period has expired. This is between 12 and 24 months in each case. In any other case, there are additional charges. For example, in the event of premature termination, the monthly recurring basic charges will be billed until the end of the minimum contract period. After the end of the minimum contract period, the cancellation period of two months must be observed. 

Return hardware after termination

After the termination of the contract, you must return the hardware to Sunrise, as they are only borrowed. This includes Internet and TV boxes, modem and router. If the hardware is not returned to Sunrise within 60 days after termination of the contract, a cancellation fee will be charged. For Wlan routers and TV boxes, this amounts to CHF 100, for the Sunrise Internet Box 5G, however, CHF 250.

What happens to your Sunrise Home subscription when you move house?

When you move, you must of course also take your Sunrise Home subscription with you. To do this, you must register your move online with Sunrise 14 days in advance. Here you have to enter

  • the desired moving date
  • your new address
  • previous tenant's number
  • if necessary, the number of your fiber optic outlet at the new place of residence.

You can keep your landline number, but you can also request a new one. The processing fee is CHF 79. 

Sunrise Roaming Options and Prices

Sunrise offers customers numerous roaming options. Depending on whether you only want to surf, only want to make phone calls or both, you can choose a suitable package with Sunrise or simply pay the standard rates.

Sunrise Internet Subscription

In addition to the numerous Mobile Sunrise subscriptions with data volume, Sunrise also offers Internet subscriptions for the home and combination subscriptions that include Internet, TV and fixed network connection.

Up Internet M

The Up Internet M subscription is the Internet starter package from Sunrise. The offer includes a home Internet connection. Due to the comparatively slow Internet speed of up to 200 Mbit/s via fiber optics, this Sunrise Internet subscription is ideal for households with occasional Internet use.

A free landline telephone connection is included in the Up Internet M subscription. The connection fee is a one-time charge of 89 francs. If you book online, the fee is waived.

The Sunrise Internet subscription costs CHF 59 per month.

Up Internet L 

The Internet subscription Sunrise Up Internet L is particularly suitable for households with demanding Internet use via several end devices. With an upload and download speed of up to 1 Gbit/s via fiber optics, surfing is possible here. A free fixed-network connection is also included.

If you book online, the connection fee of CHF 89 is waived.

The Internet subscription can be purchased for CHF 79 per month.

Up Internet XL

The third Sunrise Internet subscription, Up Internet XL, is the top speed package from Sunrise. With an Internet speed of up to 10 Gbit/s fiber, the subscription is ideal for households with data-intensive Internet use. A free fixed network connection is also included here.

Sunrise Combi-subscription Offers

In addition to the numerous cell phone subscriptions, Sunrise also offers home subscriptions that include TV, Internet and fixed network connection. With the combination subscriptions, you get a complete package for the whole family.

Essential 

The Essential combo plan includes Up Internet L, Up TV L, and a fixed-network line. The upload and download speeds range up to 1/Gbits and are therefore suitable for households with demanding Internet use on multiple devices.  

A fixed network flat rate is also included in the subscription. This allows you to make unlimited calls to all networks in Switzerland.

The Essential subscription costs CHF 109 per month with a minimum contract term of 12 months. If you order online, the activation costs are waived.

Comfort

The Comfort combo subscription also includes Up Internet XL, Up TV L and a fixed network connection. With upload and download speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s via fiber-optic connections, you can surf from home at ultra-fast speeds. This offer is therefore particularly interesting for households with data-intensive Internet use.

Unlimited calls to Swiss networks are also possible here thanks to the included fixed network flat rate.  

The Sunrise Comfort subscription costs CHF 119 per month with a minimum contract term of 12 months. If you order online, the activation costs are also waived here.

Premium

The Premium combo subscription includes Up Internet XL, Up TV XL and a fixed network connection. With an upload and download speed of up to 10 Gbit/s via fiber optic connections, you can surf from home at ultra-fast speeds. The Sunrise Premium subscription costs CHF 139 per month with a minimum contract term of 12 months. If you order online, the activation costs are also waived here.
